Dr. Hélène Trépanier was the Chief Veterinary Officer of Quebec from 2016 to 2023. She obtained a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Montreal in 1984 and a master's degree in veterinary clinical sciences (University of Montreal, 1987) and in rural economics (Laval University, 1995). During her 30-year career with the Government of Quebec, she developed and implemented the Quebec Strategy for Animal Health and Welfare, which she chaired from 2018 to 2021. She also participated to the creation of ANIMA-Québec. Prior to her government career, she taught at the Institut de technologie agricole et agroalimentaire (1996-2002), worked in slaughterhouse inspection (1994-1996) and offered advisory services in swine health (1991-1994 ). Dr. Trépanier was a member of the Animal Welfare Committee of the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec and co-president of Animal Health Canada.
